What we are providing

A 40-minute train ride away from Villach city (1 hour from Klagenfurt) we are located in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Parc in the small mountain village of Mallnitz. An international IC/EC railway station offers train connections in a 2 hour cycle.
This autumn special program for CIC-members:
Mission 3000
Climbing a 3000-meter-peak is on the bucket list of many alpinists, mountaineers, adventurers and ambitious hikers. It is an imaginary, magical line where you cross the border between alpine and high-alpine terrain. Many of these summits request technical climbing skills and alpine experience and as a result are unaccessible to average hikers. Except the summit of Säuleck with 3.086 m. No steep rock walls, ridges and no glaciers to cross makes it a mountain of moderate difficulty. Therefore we would like to invite you to experience this mountain adventure in course of a guided program with a small group. Pyhsical effort will reward you with an extra-ordinary mountain scenery, breathtaking summit views and a cozy overnight stay in an typical alpine mountain hut.
Here's the program in detail:
- Friday afternoon arrival by train in Mallnitz-Obervellach, shuttle to the hotel in the center of Mallnitz
- get together, tour briefing and dinner
- on Saturday after breakfast shuttle to the parking of Dösental and hike up until Arthur von Schmidhaus (800 meters of altitude difference, easy/moderate walking terrain, 3 hours)
- free afternoon at/around the hut; optional alpine education
- together dinner in the hut
- on Sunday after breakfast hike up to the top of Säuleck (800 meters of alititude difference, moderate/advanced walking terrain, 3 hours) and decend back into the valley (4 hours, 1.600 meters of altitude, same way as uphill)
- shuttle to the train station and return back home
the package includes:
- accommodation with half board (breakfast, dinner) at the mountain hut
- 2 days guiding by professional mountain guide
- shuttle from/to the train station & from/to the starting point of the tour
- certificate for successfully climbing the first 3000-m-peak + winners sur-prize

equipment list:
- laterally stable mountain boots with a solid profile (over ankles)
- perfectly fitting hiking socks to avoid blisters on the feet
- modern alpine hiking clothing (soft shell, breathable) incl. one hard shell layer (onion layer principle recommended)
- sun protection (suncream, hat, sun glasses etc.)
- protection for colder temperatures/wind chill (cap, hand gloves)
- drinking bottle (1,5 l recommended)
- backpack min 20-25 l
- for the overnight stay at the hut: cottage sleeping bag, toiletries, casual clothes
